| Statement: |
I have chosen to work with some ‘real’ objects that have special histories. There are shards from my Mother’s best dinner service, broken pieces of my own work from the 1980’s, ceramic scraps dug up in my garden and the left-overs from a 19th century German doll factory.
Other elements of the sculptures have been carefully constructed to bear metaphoric meaning, such as the grids, tools, and lumps of ‘geological’ matter.
The material, (chosen, or carefully made), is thrown together in a way that displays the original ‘meaning’ whilst simultaneously undermining it. What we are looking at are objects and ideas that are in transition: they are significant, mainly because they are partially formed, and partly decayed: They used to be something and are on the way to becoming something else. |
